The West Indies mystery off-spinner Sunil Narine has been signed by Melbourne Renegades to play the sixth edition of Big Bash League 2016/17. Sunil Narine, currently the ninth-ranked bowler in T20 ranking has been the part of the tournament in 2012 but has been absent from then. He is making a comeback in probably the biggest sporting event for Australia after Ashes and is all set to contribute with his right arm mystery off spin.
Sunil Narine will team up with left-arm Chinaman bowler Brag Hogg as he is also part of the roster. Both the experienced bowlers have earlier played alongside each other for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL and have contributed for the franchise according to the situation. Narine though has had a long tenure with KKR as he was signed by the franchise in 2012. Hogg came to KKR in the year 2015.
Sunil Narine is second foreign signing by the franchise, Dwayne Bravo being the first one. Both the West Indies boys were the part of the squad for the T20 series against Pakistan in which they were whitewashed by the hosts.
The sixth edition of Big Bash League starts on December 20 with the first match to be played between Sydney Thunder and Sydney Sixers.
“I’m really pleased we’ve been able to get Sunil on board with us this season, he has a lot of experience and has won the world’s toughest T20 tournament twice – those insights will be a huge benefit to the team in this campaign. We know he’s a world-class performer with the ball. We see spin playing a big part in this tournament. We’re really excited to have him teaming up with Brad Hogg. They’ll be a nice combination through the middle overs for Aaron Finch to use. He’s a proven wicket-taker and someone we know has the ability to stall momentum in our opposition.” said Melbourne Renegades coach Andrew McDonald.
